THE NEED
To strengthen capacity and inform guidelines for health and risk communication in epidemics and emerging disease outbreak settings THE ORGANIZATION The World Health Organization is an agency of the United Nations dedicated to global health and safety WHAT WE DID (1) Designed internal survey and analyzed data on existing protocols and potential/evolving needs for public health or humanitarian emergencies as they related to 148 WHO country offices. Developed strategic recommendations for capacity building and core competencies and presented future directions at WHO multi-stakeholders meetings (2) Provided strategic counseling on multiple projects on communication for behavioral and social change/communication for behavioral impact, community engagement, social mobilization, and risk communication in epidemics and emerging disease settings (3) Developed monitoring and evaluation frameworks and tools for multiple resources and field guides (4) Reviewed and provided strategic input on the Interim Guidance on Risk Communication in the Context of the Zika Virus (5) Technical assistance and strategic counseling on risk communication issues in epidemics and emerging disease settings 6) As subject matter experts, SECI principal participated in multiple WHO expert consultations and advisory meetings on epidemic/pandemic preparedness and response |
